US Open news: Carlos Alcaraz 'jealous' over Emma Raducanu as Jannik Sinner timeline set
Express Sport brings you the latest news from the US Open.

The main singles draw at the US Open does not start until this weekend but the mixed doubles are already well underway. The first round of matches took place last night with Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz teaming up on the court. They were dumped out in the very first round by Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula, who progressed to the semi-finals.
The revamped mixed doubles competition has divided opinion with many fans eager to see top players battling it out in a unique setting. Others have reacted furiously, viewing the event as a gimmick which lacks the usual amount of Grand Slam prestige. The semi-finals and final will be played on Thursday with a £736,880 prize available to the winning duo.

Nadal backs new coach to boost Raducanu
Toni Nadal, the uncle of Rafa, believes Emma Raducanu will improve under new coach Francis Roig.
"Francis is a very good coach and a man who can help Raducanu to improve technically," he said. "He puts a lot of attention on this.
"In today's game every player hits the ball very fast. But in the end tennis is about power and control - when you hit the ball fast without a good technique it is difficult to put five or six balls inside the court in a row. This is what Francis explains to players. I think he can help Emma to become a very good tennis player again."
Collins responds to Raducanu post
Danielle Collins has replied to an Instagram post by Emma Raducanu after the British star lauded her partnership with Carlos Alcaraz.
Despite the pair losing in the US Open mixed doubles, she posted: "Crazy!! @carlitosalcarazz. Thank you partner, had so much fun/"

Tommy Paul makes US Open pledge
Tommy Paul has targeted a place in the last eight of Flushing Meadows this week.
The 28-year-old said of his prospects on home soil: "I've made the quarters in every slam besides the US Open. If I didn't make quarters, I would leave the tournament unhappy. My goal starting the year was to make quarters in all four Slams. I did it in first two then Wimbledon didn't work out - I'll take three from four now."

Sinner accused of being 'fragile'
Italian pundit Guido Monaco has accused Jannik Sinner of being 'fragile' after his Cincinatti Open retirement.
He told OA Sport: “In Miami against Medvedev, Sinner arrived with a fever. At Wimbledon last year, the physical sensation was the same, obviously for different reasons. I have a common thread.
“Sinner might be more fragile than others and suffers more in certain conditions. H touched his upper stomach in the second and third game (Monday). It’s something he does every time he’s in trouble, we’ve seen it before. I’d be curious to know why he somatises the pain in that part of his body every time he’s not feeling well."

Kei Nishikori is out of the US Open with a back injury.
Japanese star Nishikori was injured in May and pulled out of the French Open. The 2014 runner-up at Flushing Meadows returned earlier this month for the Cincinnati Open but has now taken to social media with this post....
Hi fans, unfortunately I will not be ready for the U.S. Open yet. I had an MRI taken of my back and it\u2019s not 100% healed yet. Working hard to be back on court soon. Thanks for the support.

According to ESPN, 2023 champion Gauff has parted ways with coach Matt Daly and brought in biomechanics expert Gavin MacMillan.

British player vows to fight doping ban
British player Tara Moore will fight four-year ban for doping. The 33-year-old was banned in May 2022 after testing positive for nandrolone and boldenone, but the sanction was later overturned ans she returned to action in 2024.
However, the ITIA launched an appeal against the verdict ito the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the ban was reimposed.
She's now written this statement on social media...
Many have asked what my next move will be. We need to bring attention to the flaws in these organisations. My fight is not over. pic.twitter.com/aNTDa8duHe

Raducanu reveals feelings on Alcaraz partnership
Emma Raducanu has posted positively about teaming up with Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open.
Here is what the British star wrote on Instagram. That will get tongues wagging...
Novak Djokovic warned about 'rough sledding'
Rick Macci believes Novak Djokovic will only prevail at the US Open if several factors go in his favour.
The iconic coach said: "He can win the US Open because he still checks enough boxes.
"He has to make sure that he’s not playing four or five hours the other matches because you've got a day or whatever to get back and do it again.
"It’s the physical and mental toll that’s going to be tough on his body, but if the draw breaks the right way, or if Alcaraz or Sinner, something happens to them along the way...
"It changes the whole roadmap, the way you’re looking at this thing. He definitely could win the US Open, but those things have to happen.
"But if he has a lot of tough matches and then he has to go through both those guys, I think that’s kind of rough sledding."

Jack Draper addresses US Open criticism
Jack Draper has responded to criticism he has faced for taking the US Open mixed doubles event too seriously.
It has been dismissed as a glorified exhibition in some quarters but Draper's eyes remain firmly fixed on the prize.
"Obviously it is like a bit of an exhibition format, it's nice to play with someone and have a bit of fun with it," he said.
"I don't know. I like winning. It's good to win, right? I'm hearing that a lot, it's a bit of an exhibition, a bit of fun, why am I so locked in?
"It's a good opportunity to play, do well, get a lot of points in before next week, yeah. Like, I'm enjoying being locked in. I don't know why it's a crime to be locked in."
Jannik Sinner timeline emerges
Jannik Sinner is facing a race against time to be fit for the US Open after withdrawing from the mixed doubles competition.
It has been claimed that while he might only need a few days to recover from his illness, a worst-case scenario could see him miss the singles tournament as well.
Steven Buchwald, health expert at Manhattan Mental Health, told Express Sport: "Athlete withdrawals often signal a combination of physical and psychological stress.
"In Sinner’s case, subtle body language cues like slowed footwork, shallow breathing, head tilts, and brief pauses between points may have indicated his body was under strain.
"Psychological stress can amplify fatigue, affecting coordination and decision-making. Recovery timelines for acute illness vary.
"Mild viral infections may resolve in three to five days, while more serious illnesses may take one to two weeks or longer."
Carlos Alcaraz 'jealous' over Emma Raducanu
Emma Raducanu has explained why she decided not to hug Jack Draper after they faced each other in the US Open mixed doubles.
The one-time US Open champion joked that her playing partner Carlos Alcaraz would have turned green with envy.
She said: "Carlos told me if I hug Jack then we are through. He gets really jealous."

Coco Gauff signs up for US Open event
Coco Gauff has signed up for the Stars of the Open event, which will take place at Flushing Meadows tomorrow.
She will join several icons past and present for a special exhibition ahead of the US Open starting this weekend.
The likes of Andre Agassi, Venus Williams, Joao Fonseca, Andy Roddick, John McEnroe and Juan Martin del Potro will also take part.
Emma Raducanu given ambitious target
Mats Wilander has challenged Emma Raducanu to get back into the world's top 10 over the next two years.
He told Eurosport: "I don’t think we can look at Emma Raducano and say that she has another Grand Slam victory in her yet.
"She has to prove a few more things before we talk about her like that.
"But we are looking at an Emma Raducanu that can break into the top 10 here in a year or two, in my eyes, and I’m pretty convinced that she will break into the best players in the world.
"If we ask can she win another major? That’s another completely different question for another day."
Jack Draper links up with new sponsor
Jack Draper has signed with performance and lifestyle brand Vuori as their new global ambassador.
It will see Draper, who was previously outfitted by Nike, decked out in Vuori gear on the tennis court.

Emma Raducanu dating rumours shut down
Chris Evert has bluntly states that she does not see any similiarities between her love story with Jimmy Connors and the dating rumours involving Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz.
The two players have been romantically linked for some time but are not dating in spite of the speculation.
Asked if there were any parallels with her own story, Evert told ESPN: "No, because they [Raducanu and Alcaraz] are not having a relationship.
"I'm so glad I came up in the '70s, not in this day and age. Because, I mean, jeez, you're controversial and talked about no matter what you do."
Jack Draper scolded by doubles partner
Jack Draper was told off by Jessica Pegula after they linked up to beat Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz in the mixed doubles.
The young Brit described the new-look event as an 'exhibition' in their post-match press conference.

Emma Raducanu had an awkward exchange with Jack Draper after they faced each other in yesterday's mixed doubles showdown.
Heading over to the net, Draper appeared to be gearing up for a hug but Raducanu had other ideas.
